 Download document  1.  RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR ADMISSIONa) Admission  to   the  courses  are   regulated  on  the basis of merit as assessed in the
 Engineering Entrance Examination,  conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance
 Examinations.
 b) The percentage of seats to be filled by  the Commissioner for Entrance Examination, and the
 management will be as per the  decision of the University and Govt. of Kerala. At present
 85% of the total seats available (  both merit and management ) are filled through centralized
 allotment process by the Commissioner  for Entrance Examinations , Govt. of Kerala.
 c) For NRI the candidates should submit  the application in the prescribed form to the
 Principal, Calicut University  Institute of Engineering and Technology within the time fixed
 by the University.
 d) The University will prepare a separate  rank list on the basis of the marks obtained in
 Physics , Chemistry and Mathematics in  the qualifying examination by the candidates who
 have applied for admission to this  Institution under NRI quota .  This  rank   list  will  be
 published in the notice board of this  institution. Any complaint with regard to the rank list
 should be lodged within 5 days after  the publication of the rank list.
 e) The admission to this Institute under  NRI will be on the basis of the rank list so prepared.
 The intimation for counseling will be  sent to all candidates  by  post   under  certificate  of
 Posting/ the date will be published in  the newspapers.
 f) This Prospectus is subject to  modification/addition/deletion, as may be deemed necessary
 by the University of Calicut.
     2.  COURSES AND NUMBER OF SEATSa) Courses
 Calicut University Institute of  Engineering and Technology offers Five courses in B. Tech. with intake
 as  noted against each.

    |      v) | Printing Technology | 30 |       b) Categorization of SeatsThe seats available are mainly categorized  as (a) Government Quota (b) Management Quota and
 (c)NRI and (d) Lateral Entry.
 i)    85% of the total seats of each branch both Govt.Quota & Management  Quota, the candidates are
 allotted by the Commissioner of  Entrance Examinations through centralized allotment process.
 ii)   NRI seats are set apart for child/ward/dependent of an NRI.
 iii) Admission through Lateral Entry for  candidates with Engineering Diploma qualification will be
 done to second year of each course.  10% of the total number of seats in each  branch is reserved
 for the same.  At present the admission is done through the  allotment by the Directorate of
 Technical Education on the basis of  Entrance test conducted by them for the purpose.
 c) Fee for SC/ST under Management seats
 All SC/ST candidates admitted under  management quota will have to pay all fees as they are not
 eligible for any concession from the  Harijan Welfare Department, Govt. of Kerala.
 d) Other Rules for Reservation /Conversion  of seats
 i)   The NRI seats unavailed  will be merged to the Pool of Management  seat.
 ii)  Government seat vacant after allotment will  go to the Pool of management unless otherwise
 specified by the government.
 3.   ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
 (a) Academic
 i)   A pass in Pre-Degree Examination from any of the Universities in Kerala  State, or examinations
 recognized equivalent thereto, with  50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Physics,
 Chemistry and Mathematics put  together.
 ii)   A Diploma in Engineering awarded by the Board of Technical Examinations,  or an examination
 recognized equivalent thereto, by  the State Board of Technical Education after undergoing an
 institutional course of at least 3  years securing a minimum of 50% marks in the Diploma
 Examination.
 iii)   The Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary Examinations of  Kerala have been
 recognized as equivalent to the  Pre-Degree Examination.
 iv)    In case of NRI candidates who are selected on the basis of marks in the  qualifying examination,
 50% marks in mathematics and 60%  marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together
 are required. For Diploma holders  60% marks in the final diploma Examination is required.
 v)   For all courses, candidates belonging to  SEBC with a total annual family income up to Rs.4.5
 lakhs will have a relaxation of 5%  marks i.e. 45% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
 put together.
 vi)    The SC/ST candidates require only a pass in qualifying examination.
 vii)    Candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from outside the  State of Kerala, shall
 produce a certificate of  recognition and equivalency of qualification at the time of the personal
 interview.
 viii)   Those who pass the qualifying examination in compartmental/supplementary  examination, are
 not
 eligible for admission in the  same year.
         ix) For Lateral Entry, candidates shall  have passed Diploma in Engineering awarded by the StateBoard of Technical Education or  equivalent after undergoing an institutional course of at least 3
 years and must have minimum of 60%  marks for the Diploma.  For candidates  belonging to
 SC/ST community the minimum is 50%  for the diploma.
 x) Lateral Entry will be permitted only  to the branch of Engineering in which they have obtained the
 Diploma or corresponding branches.
 xi) Eligibility for admission is as  prescribed by the Commissioner for Entrance examinations , Govt.
 of Kerala.
 b)Age
 i) The applicant should complete 17  years of age as on 31st December 2011. There is no upper age
 limit.
 ii) For Lateral Entry maximum age as on  last date of submission of application will be 25 years.

 4.   ADMISSION
 The candidates who wish to be  admitted in CUIET in Merit and Management seats should
 exercise their options at the time of centralized  allotment made by the Commissioner for Entrance
 examination, Govt. of Kerala.
 c) Candidates seeking admission to the NRI  seats should apply to the Principal, CUIET in the
 prescribed form. They need not appear  for the entrance examinations conducted by the
 Commissioner for Entrance Examinations.
   5.   DOCUMENTS TO BE PRODUCEDCandidates seeking  admission to the Institute of Engineering and Technology will have to
 produced the following Original  Certificates at the time of Interview/Counseling.
 i) S.S.L.C/Equivalent Certificate as proof  of age.
 ii) Mark list and Pass Certificate of  qualifying Exam.
 iii) Course and Conduct Certificate from  the Head of Institution last attended.
 iv) Transfer Certificate.
 v) Community and Income Certificate for  SC/ST/SEBC candidates if reservation is claimed.
 vi) Admit card of Entrance Examination
 vii) Rank Card issued by the Commissioner  for Entrance Exam.
 6.  FEES
 AS FIXED BY THE UNIVERSITY/GOVT.
 Student who discontinues his/her studies  and leaves the college after the closure of admission is
 liable to pay an amount equivalent to the  course fee under payment category for the rest of the
 period of the course as liquidated damages  , irrespective of the fact that the student was admitted
 under merit or payment quota.

 7.   REFUND
 Refund of fees is  applicable only to the students who are admitted under Government quota. In  normal cases the refund of the fees will be considered only after closing the  admission for the year.  Request for refund  will not be accepted after the date of closing the admission. The tuition fee, special  fee etc. will be refunded subject to the condition given in the first paragraph  and also that it will be subject to the availability of funds after deducting  any amount the University may deem fit.
 In the  case of management quota seats, if any candidate discontinue/leaves the institution  after taking admission in the first year or in the subsequent years, the  formalities are in accordance with the decision of the Calicut University  Syndicate, from time to time.
 8.  EDUCATIONAL CONCESSIONSStudents are eligible for  educational concessions from Harijan Welfare Department, Government of Kerala,  provided their  annual  income is within the prescribed limits.  Application for educational concessions in the prescribed format together with  the necessary income and community   certificate should  be submitted to the Principal within 15 days  from the date of admission for onward transmission to the Harijan Welfare  Department.
 9.  INSTRUCTIONS
 Students shall strictly  abide by the rules and regulations of the Institute.  They should have neither been involved in any  criminal case nor any case pending against him/her in any court of law.  He should submit himself to the disciplinary  jurisdiction of the Principal and other authorities of the Institute.
 HE/SHE  SHOULD BE AWARE THAT RAGGING IS A CRIMINAL OFFENCE AND IF
 HE  IS FOUND GUILTY OF THE SAME HE/SHE WILL BE SUMMARILY
 EXPELLED  FROM THE INSTITUTE AND HANDED OVER TO THE POLICE.
 The  rules and guidelines mentioned above are subject to modification and changes in
 accordance  with the rules framed by the Commissioner of Entrance Examination,
 Government  of Kerala.  The prospectus issued by the  Commissioner for Entrance
 Examination  may also be taken as reference.
